There seems to be no end to the saga of YSR Congress party MLA R K Roja's suspension from the Andhra Pradesh Assembly at least for now.
Everybody thought Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao would take a lenient view towards Roja as the latter had “withdrawn” her words against TDP legislator Anitha though she had not formally “tendered apology” before the privileges committee and that the Speaker would lift her one-year suspension.
But the episode took an interesting turn with Roja deciding to continue her fight in the Supreme Court.
On Thursday, the apex court served a notice on AP Assembly Secretary seeking an explanation from him over the suspension.
The court asked the official to submit a detailed explanation on the circumstances that led to Roja’s suspension and posted the next hearing to April 21.
It does mean the Supreme Court took cognizance of the Roja’s appeal and found some merit in her argument.
It has not gone into the technicalities as to whether the court has jurisdiction over the House, but wanted know the rationale behind her suspension. Let us see who will have the last laugh.
