Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju said that center has a plan to develop Vishakhapatnam airport as an international one.
However, he added that the Vizag airport is under defence area and that is the reason why the experts have come up with some problems that are yet to be addressed.
Ashok Gajapati Raju earlier said that Andhra Pradesh will have 3 international airports i.e. in Vishakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupathi.
But as per the rules and regulations, two international airports should have a certain distance and only one among Vizag and Vijayawada can get international status.
By taking all these things into consideration, it looks like Vishakhapatnam airport cannot get international status.
