Corruption Big Menace In Andhra, Say Traders

Industrialists proposing to set up their units in Andhra Pradesh are very much worried over rampant corruption in the state, though AP government has claimed to be at the top in the Ease of Doing Business rankings.

In a letter to Andhra Pradesh government, the Vizag Chamber of Commerce and Industry expressed its concern over the rampant corruption in the state.

It said, "One thing that we notice is the reluctance of businesses to come out in the open and state the actual problems be it corruption or otherwise."

If the corruption is not curtailed, the state may not retain its No. 1 position in Ease of Doing Business in the country, the Chamber cautioned.

The chamber has requested the government to hold a closed-door meeting with businesses across various sectors and let them explain the ground realities. The chamber has offered to arrange a meeting at Vizag at the convenience of the government.

The Centre had recently ranked AP and TS as number one in Ease of Doing Business. AP was No. 2 last year, TS state moved up 13 places.

"If AP wants to remain at the top, we will have to set our standards higher," the chamber said.
