Nandyal and Allagadda were the two constituencies which were completely dominated by the Bhuma family – Bhuma Nagi Reddy and his wife Shobha Nagi Reddy. As long as they were alive, nobody would dare make any entry into these two constituencies.
However, after the death of the couple one after the other in the last three years, the rival groups within the Telugu Desam Party and also the YSR Congress party have started attempts to gain control over the two constituencies.
While from the TDP, the Shilpa family – Chakrapani Reddy and his brother Mohan Reddy are trying to capture Nandyal and Allagadda, the Gangula family from the YSR Congress party has started attempts to regain their lost hold.
They thought they would take advantage of the inexperience of present Allagadda MLA Bhuma Akhila Priya, who is still new to politics.
However, Akhila quickly gained control over the politics in Nandyal and Allagadda, thanks to the support extended by her uncle S V Mohan Reddy and hard core followers of her parents.
And with the support of TDP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who made her a cabinet minister, Akhila has started touring both the constituencies extensively.
Especially, she is focussing on developmental works in Nandyal and completion of unfinished works of her father, so that the constituency remains under the control of her family.
“I may have lost my parents, but the people of Nandyal and Allagadda have stood by me like parents. With their support, I will take forward the ideals of my parents,” she said.
