UK Authorities Should Take Her Into Custody

People probably still remember the controversy generated by the documentary 'India’s Daughter' made by an Englishwoman Leslie Edwin.

Although the Indian government banned the documentary, she fled to Britain and along with BBC uploaded the documentary on the internet.

Why did she flee to Britain? Because, she had apparently flouted the law in the making of the documentary.

Now our Prime Minister Modi is all set to visit Britain in November. The filmmaker Leslee Udwin asked her followers and others to gather outside the venue where Modi is scheduled to address the Indian diaspora in London and protest against him.

Udwin wants Indian government to lift the ban on her movie which is based on infamous Delhi gang rape case.

Speaking about the ban and her demand, Udwin was quoted as saying, "We need to work toward the lifting of the ban on the film in India and we urgently need your help. This one is a really urgent one, and time is short to achieve it.

"Indian Prime Minister Modi comes to London on a state visit around 12th November, and on 13th November he is addressing a massive crowd at Wembley Stadium.

"I would love to see hundreds (if not thousands) of protesters, holding placards calling for him to lift the shameful ban on the film, and lift the shame off India. We have very little time to mobilize, but I have every confidence that together we can get enough crowds to make a splash."

Modi is visiting the UK as a guest. When an Englishwoman publicly gives a call to protest the visit of a dignitary for her own selfish reasons, the UK authorities should not sit idle but immediately take her into custody and restrain her until Modi ‘s visit comes to an end.

When the Chinese President visited India, many Tibetan protestors were taken into custody as a pre-emptive measure, not because Indians do not empathize with the cause of the Tibetans but because there is a time and place for everything.

A visiting guest should not be subjected to such kinds of activity. But we need not expect our own media to come to Modi’s support either.

True to nature, they will probably take sides with Leslie Edwin over this issue.
