Techies Worried About Beer And Non-Veg

Multinational giant Oracle has been running its Indian operations from Bangalore for the past 20 years.

The company now plans to expand its offices to Gujarat as well. In that case, many of its Bangalore employees would have to relocate to Gujarat to oversee the functions there. This has not gone down well with some of the Bangalore techies. Why?

Gujarat is a prohibition state and also has the largest population of non-vegetarians. That means no alcohol and difficulty in finding non-vegetarian food. Also, Gujarati food tends to be sweet whereas South Indian food is spicy.

Normally, techies in Bangalore and most places across India tend to chill out during the weekends and beer and non-veg figure right at the top of their parting. That will not be possible in Gujarat.

Also with more number of women entering the workplace especially in the IT sector, they are slowly forgetting cooking and other ‘Home-Science’ activities. Therefore, even a married techie with his wife in the same profession would still probably be at a disadvantage. Hence, these fellows are hoping not to be sent to Gujarat.

Wonder whether they would still have the same priorities in a recession.
