Dazzle with Diamonds - Kothari's Jewelry Show

Dazzle with Diamonds - Kothari's Jewelry Show

Beauty of a soul comes from within, but adorning a piece of art enhances the poise and can make you feel unique. Someone once said: “Jewelry is like the perfect spice - it always complements what's already there”. We are literally planning to spice up this festival season by bringing you a unique jewelry exhibition.

Namaste Plaza: a chain of grocery stores offering variety of Indian products, and Kothari’s: an organization specializing in traditional handmade jewelry, are joining hands to bring you the biggest and brightest west coast jewelry exhibition.

What you need to know about diamonds before purchasing diamond jewelry

When grading diamonds, diamond Cut grade comes first, then diamond Color, Clarity, then Carat Weight - in that order. Generally, a large number of small diamonds (.01 to .05 carats) are used in jewelry items like bracelets and necklace. There is a misconception among buyers that color and clarity are more important, but it is the cut of the diamond that is more important.

The cut determines the brilliance of a diamond and is the most difficult aspect to judge, as the stones are tiny. A very good Belgian cut with the right proportion is recommended.

For color; a scale of D (colorless) through Z (light color) is used. Obviously E or F color grade is a better choice than a G or H color grade. It is important to match the color grade of all the diamonds used in a single piece of jewelry, especially the color grade of the small diamonds that surround the large one.

Clarity is as important as any small inclusion in a small diamond will be more pronounced that the same inclusion on a large diamond. For small diamonds a clarity of VVS1 is recommended.

The price of diamonds changes exponentially with the Cut/Color/Clarity grades. Same is the case with the carat weight of diamond. A single diamond of 1 carat costs 12 times as much as 50 diamonds weighing .02 carats each.

Most popular diamond jewelry items like a choker has anywhere from 800 to a 1000 individual diamonds. It is not really feasible to test or certify the grades of each of these small diamonds. With regards to the grade of diamonds in a piece of jewelry, you will have to take the word of the jeweler you are buying from. Buy from someone who is trustworthy, has been in the business for a long time and who will not risk ruining their reputation that is built over generations for a quick profit.

Kothari’s jewelry has been in diamond jewelry making and trading for almost 100 years and four generations with a reputation to protect. You can count on the quality and grading of the diamonds used in their jewelry. They offer a simple, uniform pricing all over the world, with lifetime free exchange or repair for all the products sold in-store or at an exhibition.
