Telangana wine dealers write to top cop alleging theft

Hyderabad: Due to the coronavirus outbreak across the world, the entire country has been put on a lockdown for a time span of 21 days.

A decision taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the lockdown is an attempt to ensure that people living in the country practice social distancing during the COVID-19 outbreak.

During the lockdown, restrictions have been imposed on the movement of both, private and public vehicles across the country. All state borders have also been closed and only the movement of essential commodities is allowed.

All public transport, including TSRTC buses, Hyderabad metro, taxis and auto-rickshaws have been stopped. All public places have been shut and any gathering of over 5 persons is prohibited during this time period. No restrictions have been imposed on essential services.

The restriction has also been imposed on liquor shops across the state. While on one side, some of the locals are adhering to the rules set down for this lockdown, there are some people who allegedly broke into liquor shops in search of alcohol. Addicts could not keep themselves from stopping the consumption of liquor and allegedly defied the law.

After repeated instances, the wine dealers association wrote to the city police commissioner of Hyderabad, urging him to beef up security around wine shops.

In the notice, the association wrote, "This is to ring to your attention that there are attempts being made for theft and to break in the wine shops in the city by thieves and liquor addicts as they are closed because of the lockdown imposed in the view of COVID-19 spread. "
