Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president and former Telangana minister K T Rama Rao may be facing internal family challenges — most notably, a revolt by his sister Kalvakuntla Kavitha — but for many Telangana-origin youth in the U.S., he remains a style icon and symbol of modern Telangana.
This was evident from the overwhelming response he received during his recent visit to Dallas, Texas. Local BRS leaders made a concerted effort to portray him as the party's future leader and a potential chief minister of Telangana within the next three years.
The BRS NRI USA Youth Wing organized a grand preparatory meeting in Dallas, which saw a large turnout of students and young professionals from across the region.
Students from top institutions like the University of North Texas and the University of Texas at Dallas attended, alongside hundreds of enthusiastic youth and BRS supporters.
After the meeting, attendees — including students, youth, and even families with children — jostled to get near KTR for photos and selfies.
The organizers had a tough time controlling the surging crowd and eventually arranged for a queue so attendees could take turns going up to the dais for a photo opportunity with KTR, who was more than happy to oblige.
The event was largely a public relations effort by the BRS NRI Youth Wing in Dallas to project KTR as the future face of Telangana politics.
Interestingly, while there was ample space inside the auditorium, hundreds of people waiting outside were reportedly denied entry, citing security concerns.
“This too is a form of PR strategy,” sources noted. “By keeping crowds outside, they created an impression that the auditorium was packed beyond capacity and that interest in KTR was overflowing.”
