Setback to BRS, as two ex-MLAs quit party

In a significant political development that shocked the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, two former MLAs resigned from the party on Monday, at a time when party president and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was indicted by the judicial commission on Kaleshwaram irrigation project scandal.

One was Guvvala Balaraju, who represented Achampet assembly constituency in Nagarkurnool district.

He is reportedly contemplating joining the Bharatiya Janata Party on August 9. He is said to be in close contact with the BJP’s Telangana leadership.

A recent phone conversation between Balaraju and a party worker has surfaced, in which he expressed concern over BRS potentially aligning with BJP, which might jeopardize his candidature.

He mentioned his past opposition to BJP and said that it would be better for him to choose his path and formally join the BJP.

He also expressed dissatisfaction over the Nagarkurnool MP ticket being given to R S Praveen Kumar instead of him.

Another former MLA who has quit the BRS on Monday was Marri Janardhan Reddy of Nagarkurnool assembly constituency.

He also confirmed to media that he is resigning from BRS, although he hasn’t disclosed which party he will join—though there is speculation he too may lean toward the BJP.

With internal tensions like the political tussle involving his daughter MLC Kavitha and these resignations, KCR faces mounting challenges. The BRS response to this exodus is awaited.

Meanwhile, another former MLA Abraham from Alampur constituency, who had previously resigned from BRS and joined the Congress before the last assembly elections, has reportedly resigned from the Congress as well and is likely to join the BJP.
