Rs 70 cr scam in HCA: Sports units stage dharna!

Tensions flared at the Gymkhana Grounds in Hyderabad as members of the Sports Student Federation staged a protest against the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), alleging large-scale financial irregularities amounting to nearly Rs 70 crore.

The protesters accused HCA officials of injustice toward sportspersons and alleged that private individuals had siphoned off funds.

They specifically demanded the withdrawal of Rs 68.73 crore reportedly transferred to Visaka Industries, owned by Congress MLA G Vivek Venkatswamy.

Police intervened and arrested several protesters as the demonstration intensified.

Cricket associations alleged that approximately Rs 70 crore was illegally released to Visaka Industries.

They claimed that senior officials within HCA released the funds under ministerial instructions and accused the association of misappropriation and diversion of funds.

The protest escalated even as HCA President Amarnath was addressing the media at a press conference. Agitating cricket bodies disrupted proceedings, reiterating allegations of corruption and demanding accountability.

HCA President Amarnath categorically denied the allegations. He stated that he had not signed any cheques after assuming charge as president and that he had no role in the Rs 68.73 crore payment made from HCA to the company.

He clarified that the payment was made in compliance with court orders directing payment. Amarnath dismissed the accusations as baseless and asserted that due legal procedures were followed.
