Now that the Bharatiya Janata Party has accepted the resignation of Thakur Raja Singh, the Goshamahal MLA, and is preparing to push for his disqualification from the Assembly, he finds himself at a crossroads, unsure of his next political move.
Known for his strong Hindutva politics in the Muslim-dominated Old City of Hyderabad, Singh is reportedly exploring his options.
His first possibility is to contest a by-election from the same seat on a BRS ticket, as the party appears willing to offer him the seat if he joins them.
His second option is to seek the support of the Congress — either by joining the party directly or aligning with Shiv Sena (UBT), which is a Congress ally.
If the UBT faction fields him as their candidate, Congress may choose not to contest the seat and instead support him.
A third option is to avoid triggering a by-election altogether and resist BJP’s efforts to have him disqualified through the Assembly Speaker.
Since Speaker G Prasad Kumar belongs to the Congress, he is unlikely to act swiftly on the BJP's disqualification petition.
Currently on a pilgrimage in North India, Raja Singh is expected to meet with his supporters soon to decide on his future course of action.
