Martyr's mom in fray for Huzurnagar bypolls

The suicide of Kasoju Srikantha Chary, who set himself afire in broad day light at L B Nagar in Hyderabad, was the major turning point in the movement for separate Telangana state.

Taking him as an inspiration, several bright Telangana youth had sacrificed their lives and that flared up the movement to a large scale.

The sacrifice of scores of students was one of the reasons for the UPA government granting separate statehood for Telangana.

Srikantha Chary’s mother Sankaramma from Nalgonda district was promised a good position in the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government, but party chief K Chandrasekhar Rao has completely ignored her.

Though she was given the TRS ticket in 2014, she was fielded from Huzurnagar assembly constituency where PCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy was contesting, knowing fully well that she would lose the elections.

The TRS leadership did not extend any help to her in her campaign.

After that Sankaramma was never given any recognition in the party. In 2019 elections, too, she was not given any ticket.

Now, Sankaramma wants to contest the by-elections to Huzurnagar assembly seat vacated by Uttam who got elected as an MP.

She is making request to leaders of all the political parties to elect her unanimously in forthcoming byelection.

She said injustice was done to her for two times and urged all parties to extend their cooperation for her unanimous election in Huzurnagar bypoll.

But Uttam already announced the candidature of his wife Padmavathi as the candidate and the TRS is hell-bent on winning the seat at any cost.

So, it is unlikely that Sankaramma stands any chance in the elections. After all, sacrifices don’t matter when it comes to politics!
