Within a couple of hours of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi announcing the suspension of party president K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter and MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha from the party, her brother and BRS working president K T Rama Rao went all out to target her.
Under the instructions of KTR, party workers in several parts of Telangana burnt the effigies and posters of Kavitha, raising slogans against her.
At Telangana Bhavan and the BRS offices in different districts, the party workers pulled down her posters, banners and flex boards.
At Telangana Bhavan, women leaders of the BRS held a press conference where they attacked Kavitha with strongest words.
They said the party suspended Kavitha after carefully observing her statements and actions over the past three months.
They declared their support for KCR’s leadership and claimed that many party workers, particularly women, were happy with the suspension.
They also expressed that Kavitha’s recent statements had been hurting the sentiments of party cadre, and that KCR was deeply pained by her comments made on Monday.
The leaders said that her suspension was aimed at preventing further damage to the party and to boost the morale of party workers.
BRS leader Satyavathi Rathod reminded that KCR had previously stated that no one, not even family members, would be spared if they caused damage to the party.
She said that despite repeated warnings, Kavitha refused to change her approach, adding that nobody is above the party. Rathod also alleged that there may be someone influencing Kavitha from behind the scenes.
“People respected Kavitha as the daughter of our leader, but she could not protect that respect,” Rathod said.
She criticized Kavitha for questioning the importance of the party and sarcastically remarked, “If you leave, what changes? Nothing.”
Rathod also pointed out that when there was a proposal to merge BRS into BJP, it was Kavitha who opposed it, indicating that KCR still had deep affection for her despite disagreements.
Another former minister Gongidi Sunitha said that Kavitha had dug her own grave with her actions. She reminded that Telangana society respected her because of KCR and the BRS, which gave her opportunities to contest as an MP and MLC.
Sunitha challenged Kavitha to step into the grassroots and face the people, saying they are ready to question her. She warned that if Kavitha chooses to betray BRS, she alone would have to bear the consequences.
Maloth Kavitha, another senior BRS leader, said she was personally hurt by Kavitha’s remarks against leaders like Harish Rao and Santosh, and reiterated that the party always stood for its workers above personal relationships. She expressed full support for KCR’s decision.
MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy from Jangaon stated that Kavitha was suspended based on the wishes of party workers, emphasizing that disciplinary action is inevitable when anyone acts against the party’s interests.
Former MLA Bajireddy Govardhan Reddy criticized Kavitha’s conduct, stating that her actions have been harming the party for some time.
He expressed disappointment that instead of standing with the party during difficult times, Kavitha had been indirectly aiding its rivals.
He also predicted that Kavitha would have little to no influence in upcoming local body elections.
