These days, one would see Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president and former Telangana minister K T Rama Rao targeting only the Congress government in the state, while maintaining restraint on criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Even during the recent Vice-Presidential elections, KTR took potshots at the Congress and INDIA bloc, but was not seen making any comments against the NDA.
On the shortage of urea in the state, too, the BRS leaders was coming down heavily on chief minister A Revanth Reddy, while it was the Centre which was not supplying adequate urea to the state.
But on Tuesday, perhaps after a long time, KTR chose to criticise the BJP leaders on the issue of the Supreme Court’s interim orders on the Waqf Amendment Act.
“The BJP has no respect for the Indian Constitution or the Supreme Court,” he said.
KTR stated that the BJP’s nationalism is fake, while the BRS stands for true nationalism – both in spirit and practice.
“For us, real nationalism means embracing every Indian equally, without looking at caste, creed, or religion,” he emphasized.
“Understanding the difference between true nationalism and arrogant, hollow patriotism (jingoism) is the essence of being a genuine patriot,” KTR asserted.
Recalling the horrific Pahalgam massacre where 26 innocent lives were lost due to Pakistan-sponsored terror, KTR said the BJP government allowed cricket matches with Pakistan even before the victims’ blood had dried.
He lambasted this as the clearest evidence of BJP’s fake nationalism and hypocritical patriotism.
KTR further alleged that even though the bereaved families of the Pahalgam massacre strongly opposed it, the Modi government went ahead and deceived crores of Indians by playing cricket with Pakistan.
“When BJP can play cricket with Pakistan, why does it feel pain only when the BRS welcomes a Supreme Court verdict?” KTR questioned.
