KCR to promote Harish to checkmate Kavitha?

Bharat Rashtra Samithi president and former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is said to have taken serious note of his daughter and MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha’s recent statements alleging a conspiracy to merge the BRS with the Bharatiya Janata Party and accusing the party of lacking internal democracy.

Senior party leaders believe Kavitha’s continued outbursts — especially those targeting her brother and BRS working president K T Rama Rao (KTR) — are damaging the party’s image.

These concerns have reportedly been raised with KCR, who is said to have issued key directives in response.

According to sources, KCR is upset over Kavitha’s allegations about merger efforts with the BJP. He has reportedly instructed party members to refrain from either supporting or publicly opposing her statements.

KCR is said to be weighing his options carefully. Taking disciplinary action — such as suspending or expelling Kavitha, or issuing a show-cause notice — might appear as validation of her claims and would draw unwanted attention.

On the other hand, remaining silent could send the wrong signal to party leaders and the cadre — that he is protecting her only because she is his daughter. Moreover, such silence could embolden Kavitha to escalate her criticism.

To manage the situation, KCR is believed to be creating conditions that would prompt Kavitha to leave the party on her own.

He has reportedly directed senior leaders to stay silent on the issue and avoid public engagement regarding her remarks.

One of the key strategies KCR is said to be considering is elevating his nephew, T Harish Rao, within the party.

Sources indicate Harish Rao may soon be appointed secretary-general of the BRS and entrusted with the responsibility of guiding and energizing the cadre amidst the internal turbulence.

Such a move would further isolate Kavitha and could trigger a reaction.

“She may hold a few more press conferences and issue stronger statements, but that will only increase her distance from the party,” sources said. “Eventually, she may find no space left within the BRS and choose to exit on her own.”
