The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Tuesday suspended its MLC K. Kavitha from the party with immediate effect, citing her “anti-party activities” that were “designed to hurt and damage the party.”
The decision was taken by BRS president and her father, K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). In a terse press release, the party said it had taken serious note of Kavitha’s recent conduct and her continued indulgence in actions against party interests.
“The party president K. Chandrashekar Rao has taken the decision to suspend Smt. K. Kavitha from the party with immediate effect,” the statement signed by party general secretaries Soma Bharat Kumar and T. Ravinder Rao read.
Kavitha has been at odds with the party leadership in recent months, with her strained relations with both her father and BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao becoming increasingly visible.
Her latest outburst on Monday — accusing senior BRS leader and former irrigation minister T. Harish Rao and former MP J. Santosh Kumar of benefitting from corruption in the Kaleshwaram project — appears to have been the final trigger that pushed the party to act against her.
