Kavitha to face CBI only after seeing complaint

A day after agreeing to face the Central Bureau of Investigation for questioning in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam, Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLC and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha gave a new twist on Saturday.

She sent a mail to CBI deputy superintendent of police (anti-corruption wing) Alok Kumar Shahi on Saturday saying she would appear before the investigating officer of the CBI in Hyderabad only after seeing the documents pertaining to the case, including the complaint copy.

Saying that she had gone through the contents of the notice served on her under Section 160 of the Criminal Procedure Code, Kavitha said she would like to see the complaint lodged by Praveen Kumar Rai, Director, Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) on July 22, based on which the case was registered.

The CBI said it has registered a case based on the complaint under Section Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) read with Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 477-A(falsification of accounts intended to commit fraud) of Indian Penal Code against Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and 14 others.

“During the course of investigation of the subject cited case, certain facts have emerged with which you may be acquainted with hence your examination on such facts is required in the interest of investigation,” the notice said.

Kavitha, who wrote to the CBI on Friday night saying she could meet the CBI officers at her residence in Hyderabad on December 6 as per their request, changed her stand on Saturday and said she wanted to see the documents first.

“The requested documents may be provided at the earliest to enable me to acquaint myself and answer appropriately within a reasonable period of time. The date of our meeting at Hyderabad can be fixed after the receipt of the documents,” she said.
