The sensational revelation made by former Achampet MLA Guvvala Balaraju, who resigned from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi last week and is all set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party, has landed the BRS leadership in an embarrassing situation.
Balaraju was one of four former MLAs whom the BRS had accused the BJP of trying to poach in October 2022.
The others were Pilot Rohit Reddy (Tandur), B. Harshavardhan Reddy (Kollapur) and Rega Kantha Rao (Pinapaka).
At the time, the BRS government under then chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) conducted a sting operation at a farmhouse near Moinabad, Hyderabad, to “expose” the poaching attempt.
KCR released video footage to the media, claiming it showed BJP leaders offering huge sums of money, prominent party posts, and central government contracts to the four MLAs.
Now, after quitting the BRS, Balaraju has alleged that KCR himself had scripted this elaborate political drama to create a nationwide sensation and politically damage the BJP in Telangana.
According to Balaraju, KCR used the four MLAs to approach BJP leaders as part of the sting and threatened them with suspension if they refused.
He allegedly promised them major benefits for cooperating. The MLAs, he said, acted according to KCR’s plan, making it appear as if the BJP was attempting to lure them.
Balaraju further claimed that KCR kept the four MLAs hidden at Pragati Bhavan for four days to keep them away from the media.
At one point, KCR even tried to get senior BJP leader B.L. Santosh arrested and have other BJP leaders jailed; a move that angered the BJP. The BJP took the matter to court, pushing the case into cold storage.
In retaliation, the BJP later implicated KCR’s daughter, Kavitha, in the Delhi liquor scam, leading to her six-month imprisonment.
Even after K.T. Rama Rao and Harish Rao reportedly pleaded for leniency, the Modi government continued to target KCR.
Now, with tensions high, KCR is said to be keeping a low profile at his farmhouse.
Political rivals claim that his overenthusiasm back then has pushed the BRS towards collapse, symbolically “drowning” along with the Kaleshwaram project.
They warn that if the BJP reopens the so-called “Farmhouse Files,” it could further tighten the noose around KCR’s political career.
