EC lets off KCR with mild reprimand!

The Election Commission of India, which has been generally strict with the opposition parties in terms of election code violation and lenient towards the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, has let off Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao with a simple “caution.”

The EC which issued a notice to KCR on April 10 for his loose tongue, passing alleged derogatory comments on “Hindus.”

In a letter to the chief minister on Friday, the Commission "cautioned" him for his communal remarks and asked him to be more careful in the future.

The EC was of the view that by delivering such speeches, KCR had violated the provisions of model code, which specified that no political party or candidate shall indulge in any activity which may aggravate existing differences, or create mutual hatred or cause tension between different castes and communities.

The EC was acting on a complaint from Vishwa Hindu Parishad state president M Rama Raju against KCR for the comments he had made at a public meeting held at Karimnagar on March 17.

According to the complaint, KCR made derogatory comments like: “Ee Hindu gallu, Bondu gallu.. Dikkumalina, Daridrapu gallu.. desham lo aggi pettale, gattara levale.” (These Hindus or bondus.. they are dirty and cheap fellows, their plan is to fan communal flames and spread hatred).

The VHP leader alleged that the TRS chief had tried to secure votes by passing derogatory remarks against Hindus.
