Car parked at Hyd petrol pump bursts into flames

In a shocking incident, a Skoda Superb parked at a petrol pump in Hyderabad burst into flames moments after the driver left the vehicle for a bathroom break. Dramatic visuals of the freak mishap have now gone viral on social media.

The incident took place at an Indian Oil petrol pump in Shaikpet area and the fire damaged two petrol dispensing machines. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident.

The fire control room received an alert about the fire accident at 2:06 PM. A quick investigation revealed the car was a 2010 model of Skoda Superb and it was parked dangerously close to the petrol dispensers.

While filling the tank, one of the pump staff noticed a fuel leak from the car. The driver of the car opened the rear seat to check the source of the leak.

But just went the man left the scene for a bathroom break, a fire broke out from the bottom of the car and spread to other parts and also the fuel dispensing cabins.

The driver ran away quickly but the pump staff reacted quickly and called both 100 and the fire service. Fortunately, the driver and the staff escaped without any injuries.

"The car and the fuel dispensing cabins were completely damaged. Though it took us less than 10 minutes to douse the fire, by that time, it had already spread. The firefighters prevented it to spread any further," said Chandra Shekhar, station fire officer.

It remains unclear whether or not a case was filed against the owner of the car.

The petrol pump has now been closed for operations and its officials suspect the property damage could be well over Rs 10 lakh.
