Bandi Sanjay arrested, shifted to Karimnagar

Bharatiya Janata Party Telangana unit president Bandi Sanjay Kumar was on Tuesday arrested by the Jangaon district police when he was sitting on a deeksha in protest against the arrest of his party workers who were demonstrating at the residence of Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLC and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Monday alleging her involvement in the Delhi liquor scam.

Sanjay, who gave a call for state-wide protests against the arrest of the BJP workers, was getting ready to stage the deeksha at his padayatra camp at Pamnoor of Station Ghanpur mandal in Jangaon district.

Hundreds of police swooped on the dharna camp and tried to forcibly take Sanjay into custody. However, a large number of BJP workers, who were present at the camp, resisted the police attempts.

They formed a human shield around Sanjay to prevent him from being arrested by the police. They also blocked the police vehicles and raised slogans against the high-handed behaviour of the police.

However, the police who were present in large numbers resorted to lathi-charge and dispersed the BJP workers. Several BJP workers were injured as the police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the protesters.

Later, the police bundled Sanjay into the police vehicle and took him away to Karimnagar, where he was kept under house arrest at his own house.

It may be recalled that on Monday, a large number of leaders and cadre belonging to BJP, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and BJP Mahila Morcha attempted to lay siege to the residence of Kavitha at Road No. 14, Banjara Hills, demanding that action be taken against her for her alleged involvement in the Delhi liquor scam.

It led to clash between the TRS and BJP workers. Several BJP workers sustained injuries in the incident. The Banjara Hills police picked up the BJP workers and shifted them to the police station.

On Tuesday, the police booked cases against 29 BJP, BJYM and BJMM workers under Sections 341, 147,148,353,332, 509 of Indian Penal Code.
