The Speaker for the newly formed Andhra Pradesh state is likely to be elected unanimously. With the main opposition party YSRCP giving its approval to the candidate proposed by the ruling Telugu Desam Party, electing the Speaker is now a mere formality.
TDP had proposed the name of ex-minister Kodela Sivaprasad. The Finance and Legislative Affairs Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu held parleys with YSRCP leader YS Jagan regarding Speaker’s election and Jagan is said to have given his approval to the name proposed by Yanamala.
Usually, Speaker’s election is often unanimous. However, there are few instances when the issue becomes controversial, especially if the opposition is not happy with the candidate.
In the past, the Congress government’s proposal to elect Kiran Kumar Reddy as the speaker created quite a stir in the Assembly. However, he was eventually elected as the Speaker.
Incidentally, the Speaker to the Telangana assembly has also been elected unanimously.
