Can TDP MPs question bifurcation in LS?

For the last four years, Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been stirring up the emotions of the people of Andhra Pradesh by raising the issue of unscientific bifurcation of the combined state.

On every possible occasion, Naidu has been saying that the bifurcation bill was passed hurriedly without taking into consideration the objections raised by the Andhra MPs.

Of course, Naidu’s talk is only to play on the emotions of the people while the fact is that the TDP was also a culprit in the entire drama.

In the recent budget session of the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself went on record in Parliament that the combined Andhra Pradesh state was bifurcated in the most disgusting manner.

“The bifurcation bill was passed hurriedly by closing the doors of the Lok Sabha and stopping the live telecast,” Modi criticised.

Former MP and senior leader Vundavalli Arun Kumar said Modi’s statement has given an excellent opportunity to question the very process of bifurcation.

“The forthcoming monsoon session is going to be the last session of the present Lok Sabha, as elections might be held any time after that. So, it is a good opportunity for the TDP MPs to insist on a debate over the way the entire bifurcation bill passed in LS in 2014,” Vvundavalli said in a letter to chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday.

He said he had all the evidences to prove that the bifurcation bill was not passed according to the Constitutional norms. “I will pass all these evidences on to the TDP MPs so that they can raise the issue in the Lok Sabha. I don’t mean it will reverse the bifurcation process, but it would at least generate a debate in the House, so that people will understand who the real culprit was – whether it was the Congress or the BJP or both,” he said.

Since Modi himself endorsed the unscientific bifurcation of AP, the BJP might not stall the discussion on the issue, Vundavalli observed.
