The hunt for the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh continues despite strong rumours that it will be developed in the VGTM circuit. So, among the hot contenders was the temple town of Amaravathi situated in Guntur district.
But the deputy chief minister of AP has now made a formal announcement saying that Amaravathi is no longer in the race.
Apparently, the place has vaastu dosham and that is the reason behind it being discarded in the nth minute.
But what has surprised many in the political circles is the statement made by KE Krishnamurthy that he heard about Amaravathi having vaastu dosham.
When questioned about a probable choice for the capital, he had said that it could be in the heart of Andhra Pradesh or between Vijayawada-Eluru or between Vijayawada and Guntur. He added that Amaravathi and Donakonda were also being considered, though he was no longer sure of Amaravathi.
While Kurnool was a good choice it was not accessible to the entire state, he opined.
Incidentally, he hails from Kurnool and said that personally he would have liked Kurnool to be the state capital. He further indicated that very soon the Sivaramakrishnan Committee might make a formal announcement regarding the issue.
In what could be a common opinion among the members of the Babu’s cabinet, Krishnamurthy said that it would be practically viable if various cities are developed on par with each other before making an announcement regarding the capital city.
If the city is announced now, it would lead to people rushing there to settle down which will put further pressure on the meager infrastructural facilities there, he explained.
While he was for the setting up of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in Kurnool, Krishna Murthy made it clear that both Kurnool and Vizag would be bad choices for the capital city.
