2016 Best Medical Research Award to Dr. M.S. Reddy

2016 Best Medical Research Award to Dr. M.S. Reddy

Indian-American Microbiologist and Scientist Dr. M.S. Reddy (Dr. Malireddy Srinivasulu Reddy) has been honored with the 2016 research award for his work on breakthrough Probiotic therapy for treating superbugs (C. diff and MRSA etc.) published in the International Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Nanotechnology (IJPSN).

The editor’s team has conferred this honor for his outstanding research paper on prevention or treatment of hospital superbugs.

Dr. Reddy won this award because of his breakthrough therapy of high clinical significance.  Annually over six million people get infected with the hospital acquired multiple antibiotic resistant bacterial infections, and so far millions of people died and also continue to die due to such infections.

The first antibiotic penicillin was discovered in 1929 by Nobel Laureate Dr. Alexander Fleming.  The penicillin was introduced into medical commerce in mid-1940’s, to save lives of millions due to bacterial infections.

Eventually several more broad-spectrum antibiotics were also developed and used successfully. Unfortunately, several disease-causing bacteria (germs) now have developed resistance to most of these antibiotics and thus causing death of several million people in the world. These antibiotic resistant bacteria (superbugs) are more prevalent in hospital and health care settings and are called hospital acquired or nosocomial infections.

Generally, patients get admitted for a specific disease, and unfortunately, they will end up picking up these dangerous hospital acquired infections during their stay at the hospital.  Once, the highly praised lifesaving antibiotics are now turned out to be the most dangerous life threating drugs, through creation of these multiple antibiotic resistant superbugs.

Dr. Reddy (after 48 years’ worth of studious research) came up with a brilliant concept of fighting these harmful diseases causing bacteria (germs), using the friendly and health promoting bacteria (good guys) to treat these deadly hospital acquired infections (bad guys) killing millions of innocent people. These health promoting natural bacteria are called Probiotics.

Some of these all-natural Probiotics are safe and thus are used in the manufacture of fermented dairy products. These Probiotics have the natural ability to kill the superbugs by producing the all-natural bacteriocins (nanoparticles), organic acids, hydrogen peroxide, and enzymes to destroy the harmful toxins.

Dr. Reddy came up with a scientific blend of specific Probiotics belonging to different genera (family) and species (individuals) which are naturally resistant to antibiotics and yet has capacity to kill the superbugs.

The success behind the discovery is due to the dual killing effect of live Probiotics and their prior and later produced growth end products (nanoparticles) including bacteriocins, on superbugs. This discovery is as good as the original discovery of penicillin in 1929, according to several medical practitioners.

Dr. Reddy’s discovery will help to eliminate several other incurable diseases such as IBS, colon cancer, and celiac disease. This is a commendable gift to the human race.  Dr. M.S. Reddy was able to come up with this novel discovery like Nobel Laureate Dr. Fleming  did on penicillin, because of his extensive medical (Veterinary and human), and Microbiology (Ph.D.) research background.

Dr. Reddy currently serves as President and Chairman, American Dairy and Food Consulting Laboratories (ADFAC Labs), and International Media and Cultures (IMAC, Inc.), Denver, Colorado, USA.

He has published over 100 research articles, written three books and holds close to 150 US and International patents. He has received over 145 awards and prestigious honors for his exceptional scientific and philanthropic contributions for the human welfare, worldwide.
