Finally, India and Pakistan have announced a ceasefire. Aside from the official statements made by both nations, a post by Donald Trump on X (formerly Twitter) drew significant attention.
He wrote- "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire. Congratulations to both countries on using common sense and great intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
This appears to be a deliberate attempt by Trump to take credit for halting the Indo-Pak conflict.
He may even be hoping for a Nobel Peace Prize, as he has repeatedly claimed credit for promoting global peace, citing his alleged role in stopping the conflict between Israel and Palestine—and now, between India and Pakistan.
In fact, it was Pakistan that initiated the request for a ceasefire with India, making a call to Indian officials at 3:45 PM on May 10th.
When they did not receive a definitive response from India, Pakistan turned to the United States for assistance.
The U.S. then stepped in, requesting a ceasefire from India on Pakistan’s behalf. India subsequently agreed.
That is the full story. However, Donald Trump oversimplified the situation, portraying himself as the key negotiator in order to maintain his "big brother" image and claim credit for the resolution.
