GST Collections: AP Declines, Other States Surge

India’s Goods and Services Tax collections saw a notable increase in April 2025, with an overall rise of 12.6% compared to April 2024.

While many regions experienced growth, South India displayed varied trends across its states.

Tamil Nadu led the region with a strong 13% increase in GST collections, reflecting a healthy economic activity.

Telangana also saw a robust performance with a 12% rise. Karnataka followed closely with an 11% increase, indicating steady growth across its economy.

However, Kerala’s growth was relatively modest, with a 5% increase, suggesting some economic challenges in the state.

Most notably, Andhra Pradesh (AP) experienced a 3% decrease in GST collections in April 2025, compared to same month of last year 2024, marking a decline under Chief Minister Chandrababu's governance.

This drop suggests a decrease in purchasing power and slower economic momentum in the state, raising concerns about its economic recovery.

The overall positive trend in GST collections across India contrasts with the decline in AP, highlighting disparities in economic growth across regions.
