Delhi CM joins Jagan in seeking vaccine formula transfer

Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking withdrawal of patent rights on Covaxin.

He suggested that the withdrawal of the patent rights would help other manufacturers to start production of the vaccine to meet the country’s requirement.

Hours later, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal joined the issue echoing the sentiments of Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The Delhi chief minister too wrote a letter to the Prime Minister asking the Central government to transfer the vaccine formula to other manufacturers.

Kejriwal said that the two companies, Bharat Biotech which is making Covaxin and Seerum Institute which is manufacturing Covishield, were not able to meet the country’s vaccine requirements.

The Delhi chief minister wanted more manufacturers enter the market and thus increase the production.

It is a fact that the second wave of the Covid 19 is taking its toll in large numbers across the state.

As the threat of a third wave is also feared, the two companies were not able to match the vaccine to meet the requirement.

More manufacturers are to enter the scene or the two companies should increase their manufacture capacity.

In the given situation, the two companies have failed to increase their production, forcing people to think of increasing the production of the vaccine.

It is to be seen what the Central government would do on the two letters to have surplus vaccine in the country.
