Coronavirus: India's caseload crosses 2 lakh

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc across the country as India's daily coronavirus caseload has doubled in 10 days with a record 2,16,642 new infections logged on Thursday. 

Amid the unprecedented surge, the authorities grapple with shortages of vaccines, treatments and hospital beds. Several states/UTs have imposed fresh restriction in a bid to contain the virus spread.

Maharashtra continued to report grim Covid-19 figures today with 61,695 new Covid-19 cases and 349 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per the state health department.

The total number of positive cases in the state now stands at 36,39,855, including 29,59,056 recoveries and 59,153 deaths. There are currently 6,20,060 active cases in the states, the highest in any state.

India today reported 2,16,642 new Covid-19 cases and 1,182 deaths in the last 24 hours. As per the union health ministry of family and welfare, the country's caseload increased to 1,40,74,564. The fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,74,335.

The health ministry data showed that there are 15,63,588 active covid cases in the country, while 24,29,564 patients have recovered from the deadly contagious disease.
