Why Public Money For KCR Beliefs?

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's decision to release Rs 5 crore for making offerings to Lord Venkateshwara of Tirumala as a vow for realizing the dream of separate Telangana State has drawn flak from the Opposition parties.

It may be mentioned that KCR on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 5 crore for presenting gold ornaments “Bangaru Saligrama Haaram and Petala Kante” in Sri Mula Varna Kamalamu Namuna for Sri Venkateshwara Swamy at a total cost of Rs 5 crore, including making charges. The amount will be met from the Common Good Fund of Commissioner of Endowments Department, Telangana, Hyderabad.

First of all, KCR had taken the vow in his individual capacity before the formation of Telangana. So, he had no official capacity then to give a commitment on behalf of the Telangana government, as there was no guarantee that he would become the Chief Minister. So, he cannot spend public money for his religious beliefs.

“If he wants, he can spend the same amount from his personal purse. How can he spend public money to fulfill his vows?” Congress leader D K Aruna asked.
