Why is YSRC disowning Babu in Chittoor?

Why is YSRC disowning Babu in Chittoor?

There was a surprising press statement from the central committee of the YSR Congress party on Tuesday stating that former MLA of Chittoor C K Jayachandra Reddy alias C K Babu was not a member of the party.

As such, the claims made by Babu and his family members about their membership in the party were false and their statements accusing other leaders of the party were nothing to do with the party, the statement said.

It was surprising because no party issues such a statement disowning its own party leader. At the most, the party leadership issues a press note suspending such a leader who defied the party discipline.

The fact is that Babu joined the YSR Congress party in the presence of party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy way back in April 2014 and since then, he has been continuing in the party, though he is not very actively participating in the party programmes.

Even on September 2 this year, Babu organised a huge rally at Chittoor on the eve of YSR’s death anniversary and paid floral tributes.

He even attacked the TDP government for its failure to develop Chittoor city and expressed confidence that things would change for good if Jagan becomes the chief minister.

If Babu was not the YSRC member, Jagan should have issued a statement then itself disowning the former. Apparently, the statement was issued following a complaint from Chittoor party in-charge Jangalapalli Srinivasulu that Babu was claiming himself to be the party candidate of YSRC in the next elections.

Babu, a four-time MLA of Chittoor, once as an independent and thrice from Congress, is the most notorious leader with criminal background. But he had the strong support of late chief minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy.

In fact, YSR was scheduled to have his breakfast at the residence of Babu on September 2, 2009, when he met with tragic end in a chopper crash while on his way to Chittoor.

He did not contest 2014 elections because he joined the YSRC at the eleventh hour, but campaigned for the YSRC candidate Srinivasulu. This time, he wants to become the MLA, but now YSRC has disowned him!
