Why is Venkaiah silent on Jagan-Modi meet?

The meeting of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 10 has kicked up a lot of storm and dust in Andhra Pradesh politics.

The Telugu Desam Party leaders, including chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, reacted strongly on Jagan meeting Modi and surrendering to the latter by extending support to the BJP candidate in the Presidential elections.

While the YSRC leaders retorted strongly, the BJP leaders, including national leaders like Siddharth Nath Singh, Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, Daggubbati Purandeshwari and Kanna Lakshminarayana, besides floor leader B Vishnukumar Raju came in support of Jagan.

The only persons who has not reacted so far was Union minister for information and broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu.

Obviously, he would not react because he is a close ally of Chandrababu Naidu and he was the one who is responsible for the TDP-BJP alliance. So, any statement in support of Jagan’s meeting with Modi will spoil his relationship with Naidu.

At the same time, he cannot even oppose it because it would mean questioning Modi for giving appointment to Jagan. However, there is said to be another reason for Venkaiah’ silence.

Sources said it was Venkaiah, in connivance with finance minister Arun Jaitely, who was responsible for the harassment of Jagan by the Enforcement Directorate authorities to help chief minister Naidu.

And Modi came to know about it and has now ordered inquiry into overenthusiasm of the ED officials. So, Venkaiah is forced to shut his mouth!
