In the past, when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister, he had repeatedly asked Chandra Babu Naidu to join the NDA government. At that time, Chandra Babu refused and gave outside support.
Though Chandra Babu eventually accepted the Speaker’s post, he let go of it later. While he had opted for one minister berth and three state ministers from the United Front government, Babu always gave outside support to NDA.
But this time, TDP has decided to join the NDA government. However, it is likely to get only one cabinet berth. Earlier, Chandra Babu had the option of getting as many berths as possible. Now, the situation is such that Babu is asking for more ministerial berths.
In 1999, there were more than 30 MPs from Andhra Pradesh. In the new truncated Andhra Pradesh, there are only 17 MPs. So, it is being said that only one cabinet berth and two state ministers would be allocated to TDP.
There is talk among political circles that Chandra Babu would soon go to New Delhi to meet Narendra Modi and ask for more ministerial berths and state ministers.
