What's going to happen in Vizag on Oct 15?

A tense situation is prevailing in Visakhapatnam, as it is all set to witness a charged up atmosphere on October 15 over the Jagan Mohan Reddy government’s decision to shift the executive capital to the port city.

The YSR Congress party, under the aegis of Joint Action Committee (JAC) for three capitals, has planned a massive rally in the city on October 15. The ruling party is planning to mobilise at least a lakh of people for the rally.

A four-kilometre long march would be taken up on that day from Ambedkar statue to the beach road via Andhra University in support of the government’s decision. The rally was named as “Visakha Garjana” (roar of Vizag).

The rally would be addressed by several intellectuals, social activities, businessmen, students and academics to highlight the need to have administrative capital at Visakhapatnam.

As if to counter the YSRC plan, the Telugu Desam Party has also called for a meeting of all the party leaders and functionaries from all the three north-coastal districts at Visakhapatnam on the same day.

The TDP is planning to chalk out an action plan to explain to the people why the previous Chandrababu Naidu government had taken the decision to establish the capital city at Amaravati.

The meeting, which would be attended by in-charges of the TDP in three districts, MLAs, MP candidates and other seniors, would discuss what the Naidu government had done for developing Visakhapatnam as an industrial capital and an Information Technology destination.

They would also come out with a comprehensive white paper on what Naidu had done for Visakhapatnam during his regime. The white paper would be widely circulated among the people.

On the same day, Jana Sena Party chief and power star Pawan Kalyan, would also take up a yatra in Visakhapatnam in support of Amaravati. He is planning to hold “Praja Vani” programme in the city, besides addressing a road show.

According to party sources, Pawan might stay back in Visakhapatnam for three days and address a series of Jana Sena party meetings.

This has charged up the political atmosphere in Visakhapatnam. The YSRC leaders are finding fault with Pawan for choosing the wrong time to come to the city, as if to foment further trouble.

There is a talk that the Jagan government will not allow Pawan Kalyan to enter Visakhapatnam under any circumstances and the police might take him into custody the moment he lands in the city.

It remains to be seen how the situation would take a turn in Vizag on that day.
