It is clear that the Congress is experimenting with a new strategy whereby people belonging to the backward classes are now being put at the helm of affairs.
In a report prepared and sent to Rahul Gandhi by Ponnala Lakshmaiah, he had stated that it was the leaders of the Kamma and Reddy communities of Andhra Pradesh who were responsible for the social unrest.
Already there was a large frustration in both regions against these people who in order to protect their business and political interests would not hesitate to take on even the high command.
While this frustration found expression in the form of the Telangana agitation, the Seemandhra movement was more of an orchestrated movement by these leaders, said Ponnala in his report.
Obviously, the Congress seems to have agreed with him for instead of a Reddy or any other upper caste person for the post of PCC President of Telangana, it choose Ponnala.
In Andhra also, it appointed Raghuveera Reddy, a BC whose original name was Raghu Veera Yadav. It is clear that the Congress does not mind short term losses for the sake of long-term gains. And that the BC’s are increasingly finding favor with it!
