If the reports coming from New Delhi are to be believed, Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana would get a woman Governor very soon.
According to these reports, the National Democratic Alliance government has zeroed in on former Chief Minister of Gujarat Anandiben Mafatbhai Patel as the suitable candidate for the post of Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
In all probability, Anandiben will be appointed as the Governor for both the Telugu States by this month end. She could replace E.S.L. Narasimhan who has already completed his term.
Earlier, a senior BJP leader from Karnataka was tipped to be the new Governor of AP and TS. However, the BJP leadership appears to have preferred Anandiben for the post.
It does mean all the attempts of Narasimhan to get extension as the Governor of Telugu states did not yield results.
Narasimhan wanted that he be retained as Governor of at least Telangana state, but the Centre has decided against appointing separate governors for the two Telugu states because as per the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, there will be a common governor for both the states.
The last time that Andhra had a woman Governor was in late 80’s when Kumudben Joshi was the governor. After that, it will be Anandiben, if she is appointed.
