Sharmila to give up 'Rajanna Rajyam' slogan?

YSR Telangana Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister Y S Sharmila appears to have given up her plan of establishing “Rajanna Rajyam” in Telangana, as she has decided to cosy up with the Congress party.

The way Sharmila greeted former Congress president and ex-MP Rahul Gandhi on his birthday on Sunday was a clear indication that she would be joining hands with the Congress.

For the first time, she said Rahul was “inspiring people with perseverance and patience and serving them through sincere efforts” and wished him all the “success in abundance.”

According to party sources, Sharmila has been in regular touch with the Congress top leadership, but is unable to decide whether she should merge her party with the Congress or forge an alliance with it by retaining its identity.

While the Congress high command wants her to merge the YSRTP with the Congress and focus on Andhra politics, Sharmila wants to sustain her party’s identity but ally with the Congress.

She is also said to be keen on contesting from Palair assembly constituency in Khammam and be active in Telangana politics.

Sources said Sharmila might take a call on either merging her party with the Congress or forging an alliance with it before June 30.

Either way, Sharmila will be virtually giving up her dream of establishing a Rajanna Rajyam, which she had been campaigning for the last two years. Or she might be under the impression that she would be able to realise her dream through the Congress, as her father Y S Rajasekhar Reddy was a Congressman till his last breath!
