RS polls in AP, Telangana on June 10

The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced schedule for the conduct of elections to the vacant Rajya Sabha seats in various states including Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

In all, elections would be held for 57 Rajya Sabha seats in 15 states. The polling would be held from 9 am to 5 pm on June 10. The counting of votes would be held on the same day.

The notification for the vacant seats would be issued on May 24 and the nomination process would commence on the same day. The last date for filing of nominations is May 31 and the scrutiny would be done on June 1.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations will be June 3 and the polling would be held on June 10.

In Andhra Pradesh, four vacancies would be arising with the completion of term of – Suresh Prabhu, V Vijay Sai Reddy, Y S Chowdary and T G Venkatesh, on June 21.

In Telangana, two vacancies will arise with the completion of term of D Srinivas and Capt V Lakshmikanth Rao.

Since the ruling YSR Congress party in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Rashtra Samithi in Telangana have adequate number of MLAs, they would bag all the seats in their respective states.

In Telangana, a separate notification was already issued on Wednesday for the by-election to Rajya Sabha seat caused by the resignation of Banda Prakash. The election will be held this month. This will also be bagged by the TRS.

It would be interesting to see who will get the nomination to the RS seats from the YSRC and the TRS in their respective states.
