Reverse Exodus Worries Naidu!

Reverse Exodus Worries Naidu!

The ongoing MLC elections seem to have created a big headache for Telugu Desam Party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, as a large number of disgruntled elements who are not happy with the selection of candidates have started migrating into the YSR Congress party.

While this is being seen in most of the districts of Andhra Pradesh, it has become all the more evident in Nellore district.

Both the TDP leaders and also those who shifted their loyalties from YSR Congress party are expressing open disgruntlement over the selection of Vakati Narayan Reddy who migrated from the Congress into the TDP recently.

This is being cashed in on by the YSR Congress party leadership. They are luring several MPTCs and ZPTCs from the TDP so as to defeat Vakati and ensure the victory of YSRC candidate Anam Vijaykumar Reddy.

Already half a dozen MPTC and ZPTC members joined the YSRC in the presence of party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, while many others are learnt to have assured that they would cross vote for the YSRC candidate, while continuing in the TDP.

In the last panchayat raj elections held just before the assembly elections, the YSRC had won 86 seats more than the TDP. But with the TDP coming to power, most of them jumped into the TDP, as a result of which the ruling party could get 483 seats out of 843 ZPTC and MPTC seats in the district.

So, the TDP should easily win the MLC seat under local bodies’ quota. However, with the reverse migration of several TDP members into the YSRC, the contest is now evenly poised.
