We have seen several Telugu films ending up as big flops in overseas markets, particularly in the US, though the producers try to over-project the collections back home.
The ongoing Mahanadu, the annual conclave of the ruling Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh, seems to have followed the story of such Telugu films.
While the TDP leadership has made all out efforts to make the Mahanadu at Vijayawada a roaring success spending crores of rupees, its attempt to put up a big show in the US turned out be a mega flop.
Some TDP leaders in the US (needless to say those belonging to the community of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu) sought to hold Mahanadu simultaneously in Dallas.
They tried to mobilise the crowds for the three-day conclave and some TDP leaders from India also attended it.
However, the turnout was very poor, much to the disappointment of the organisers and the TDP leaders.
What is worse, the conclave was marred by the loud protests by several NRIs who stormed the venue from different parts of the US.
They raised slogans against the anti-people policies of the Chandrababu Naidu government, his failure to fetch special category status to AP and his inefficient administration.
The number of protesters were more than the turnout at the Mahanadu and the organisers did not understand what to do. Having left with no other option, they asked the gathering to leave the venue.
The TDP leaders from AP are learnt to have reprimanded for not taking enough care in making proper arrangements for the meeting.
