Jagan's statement that he would return the lands of the farmers after he is voted to power is way too simplistic and not in keeping with the tradition of a responsible 'Opposition leader'.
Being in the opposition does not mean simply adopting a course of action directly opposite to the policies of the ruling Party. Also, it is not such an easy thing to return the lands after a period of five years or ten years, assuming Jagan comes to power then.
The issue is way too complex and the ground reality would be something completely different after such a long term.
Jagan can easily take recourse to legal options if he wants to ensure justice to the farmers.
Naidu is not going about the land acquisition process according to the Constitution. Or else, Jagan can ensure that the farmers get equitable compensation for their lands.
And there is one more important thing here! Jagan says that he will return the lands of the farmers to them. Does this mean that he has already decided that there is nothing to stop Naidu from acquiring the lands?
Instead of undertaking such an arduous task of returning the lands, Jagan would be better off by preventing the land acquisition now itself by taking recourse to all legal options.
