Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who has been playing hide and seek for the last few days over the demand for Special Category Status to AP, came out in the open on Thursday.
Addressing a meeting at Anantapur, Naidu made an open and categorical demand for SCS.
“The centre has to give special category status to Andhra Pradesh at any cost. When it can grant the status to other states, why can’t it give the same to AP which suffered heavily due to bifurcation?” he asked.
He alleged that the Centre had cheated the state by announcing special financial package to the state in lieu of special category status.
“The package has not been implemented fully. What we got so far is only peanuts in the name of special package,” he said.
He, however, said the state government would not stop welfare schemes just because the Centre was not giving enough funds.
“Some people are trying to create unrest in the name of agitation for special category status. Instead of demanding the Centre for the same, they are targeting me. If they create law and order issues, even the ongoing developmental works cannot be executed and industrial progress will come to a halt,” he said.
It clearly shows how quickly Naidu can change his colours, putting chameleon to shame.
In the coming days, one does not need to be surprised if he stages a dharna in the Centre for special status!
