No Takers For Azhar In Hyderabad Congress?

Former cricketer and Congress leader Mohammed Azharuddin, who is keen on contesting the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat in 2019, has found no supporters within the Congress party in Hyderabad.

At a meeting of the Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee headed by former MP P Anjan Kumar Yadav in Hyderabad on Monday, Azharuddin put forth his interest in contesting from Secunderabad in the next Lok Sabha elections.

“I, however, will leave the decision to the party leadership and will abide by its decision,” he said.

He said a lot of his well-wishers and supporters have advised him to stand for the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat this time.

“I want to work for the people in Secunderabad. I have worked very hard in the constituency,” he said.

However, several Congress leader who attended the meeting objected to Azhar’s contesting from Secunderabad. They raised slogans against him.

Former MP V Hanumantha Rao who supported Azhar walked out of the meeting, while another former MP Sarvey Satyanarayana opposed Azhar and supported Anjan Kumar Yadav.

Speaking to media later, Anjan said Secunderabad was his seat and nobody can deny him his right.

“Azhar is an outsider and he has no supporters here. Anybody who sabotages my candidature will have to face serious consequences. I will complain to the high command against them,” he said.

Interestingly, former MLA Mukesh Goud and his son Vikram Goud abstained from the meeting leading to the speculations that they might join the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
