No More 'Bandhs' Please

No More 'Bandhs' Please

The YSRCP has called for a state-wide Bandh on the 29th of this month in protest against the Centre's indifferent attitude to AP on granting special status to the State.

The Party has asked for the co-operation of the people in making the ‘Bandh’ a success. We had a recent Bandh led by the CPI after Munikoti gave up his life for the special status of AP.

The point is: do these bandhs serve any purpose anymore? Apart from being PR exercises which give the call for these events, there seems to be precious little that the State is gaining in terms of welfare of its people.

On the contrary, the common man is inconvenienced even further with the shutting down of government and educational establishments, petrol pumps etc.

Perhaps it wouldn’t be going too far if one were to suggest that ‘Bandh’ as an instrument of expression of disenchantment with the ruling dispensation has far outlived its usefulness.

One easily loses track of the number of such ‘Bandhs’ organized by various political parties in recent times, starting with the ‘Samaikhyandhra’ movement.

Has even a single one proved to be successful in its objective? What then, is the point in continuing to persist with them and paralyze the normal life of the public, further?
