Naidu cheating farmers on Annadata scheme?

Naidu cheating farmers on Annadata scheme?

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu who has been dodging the implementation of “Annadata Sukhibhava” scheme for farmers on the pretext of lack of funds, is getting ready to cheat them once again.

As per the Super Six guarantees, Naidu had promised to pay Rs 20,000 per year for every farmer under Annadata Sukhibhava scheme, which is a modified version of YSR Rythu Bharosa scheme of the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government under which the farmers were getting Rs 13,500 per year.

While Jagan’s scheme included Rs 6,000 per year being paid by the Centre under “PM Kisan” scheme, Naidu did not make any mention of the central scheme, giving an impression that his government would pay Rs 20,000 per year to each farmer apart from the assistance under PM Kisan scheme.

But after coming to power, Naidu changed the tune and declared in January this year that his government would pay Rs 20,000 per year to each farmer under Annadata Sukhibhava scheme, which includes PM Kisan scheme with effect from the commencement of Kharif season in June. That means, in effect, he said he would pay them only Rs 14,000 per year.

On Saturday, Naidu made yet another statement that would terribly disappoint the farmers.

At a programme in Panyam in Kurnool district, the chief minister said his government would deposit funds into farmers' accounts under Annadata Sukhibhava scheme on the same day of the release of funds by the Centre under PM Kisan scheme.

He said the amount to be paid by the state government would match the financial assistance given under the central government’s PM-Kisan scheme. This is alarming, as the Centre would pay only Rs 6,000 per year per farmer under PM Kisan Scheme and so, Naidu would pay only Rs 6,000 to each of them, and not Rs 14,000 as promised earlier.

Moreover, the Modi government is paying Rs 6,000 in three instalments of Rs 2,000 each. It paid the first instalment in March and the second instalment of Rs 2,000 would be paid in June.

Since Naidu says he would pay the equal amount paid by the Centre, it would mean, his government will release only Rs 2,000 to each farmer in June. Is it not cheating, Mr Naidu?
