Munugode bypoll: Who'll fight against Rajagopal?

Munugode bypoll: Who'll fight against Rajagopal?

It is now more or less certain that controversial Congress MLA from Munugode assembly Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy would call it quits to the party and join the Bharatiya Janata Party in the first week of August.

Though there has been a stiff resistance from the local Congress party leaders and cadre, Rajagopal is learnt to have made up his mind to defect to the BJP and resign from his assembly membership.

Even if Rajagopal doesn’t quit the party immediately, the Congress high command is learnt to have decided to sack him from the party on disciplinary grounds based on his comments at the press meet a couple of days ago.

He even defended Enforcement Directorate authorities questioning Sonia in the National Herald scam.

“The high command will take the final call. We shall discuss his issue in the party and take appropriate action,” Telangana PCC president A Revanth Reddy said.

According to sources, the BJP leadership is planning to ensure that there would be by-elections to Munugode assembly seat in October along with the assembly by-elections in other states, once Rajagopal quits his seat.

The Congress leadership has already started searching for a suitable candidate to fight the Munugode by-elections.

It is said to be considering the names of Palwai Sravanthi, daughter of former Munugode MLA Palwai Goverdhan Reddy and K Raghuveer Reddy, son of former CLP leader K Jana Reddy.

The TRS, too, is looking for strong candidates including former MLA K Prabhakar Reddy, who lost to Rajagopal in the last elections, besides former MLCs Nethi Vidyasagar and Karne Prabhakar.

So, the political atmosphere in Telangana is hotting up once again with the resignation of Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy from the Congress!
