Mudragada defends Dwarampudi, attacks Pawan

Stage is set for the return of former minister and Kapu strongman from East Godavari district Mudragada Padmanabham into active politics and in all probability, he will be contesting the coming elections from YSR Congress party.

On Tuesday, Mudragada wrote a strongly-worded letter to power star and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan, attacking him for criticising the Jagan Mohan Reddy government in general and Kakinada (urban) MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy in particular.

He strongly defended the stand taken by YSRC president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on the Kapu reservations under OBC quota.

“Kindly go through my statements when Jagan Mohan Reddy said in the past about Kapu reservations. He clearly said the granting reservations to Kapus was in the Centre’s court and not the state government,” he said.

Asking Pawan Kalyan not waste to his energies in attacking Dwarampudi, Mudragada recalled that the MLA had won twice, which would not have been possible without the support of the people.

“It is totally wrong on your part to make abusive comments against Dwarampudi, his father Bhaskar Reddy and grandfather Krishna Reddy, alleging that they made money through illegal means. They had never aspired for any posts or positions right from the days of N T Rama Rao,” Mudragada said.

He said he had been in close association with the MLA’s family, which had helped the Kapu movement by providing vehicles and taking up publicity campaign for the Kapu reservations.

“You have never taken part in any of the Kapu movements; and so, you have no right to criticise the MLA who had extended all help to the movement,” he said.

The former minister said if Pawan Kalyan had any guts, he should contest against Dwarampudi in the next assembly elections in Kakinada and defeat him with people’s support, instead of making baseless allegations.
