KCR to skip HDK swearing-in ceremony?

KCR to skip HDK swearing-in ceremony?

Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is in a dilemma on whether he should attend the swearing-in ceremony of Janata Dal (S) leader H D Kumaraswamy, the chief minister-elect of Karnataka at Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Reason: He is feeling uncomfortable to share the dais with Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi, who would definitely be the centre of attraction at the Kantheerava stadium in Bengaluru.

Though it is technically a government of Kumaraswamy, the majority shareholders in the coalition is the Congress. So, it is a Congress-led government for all practical purposes.

So, if KCR attends the swearing-in ceremony, it would be an embarrassing situation for him back home, where he is fighting the Congress party in the next elections.

Secondly, his counterpart in Andhra Pradesh and Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu is also attending the swearing-in ceremony of Kumaraswamy.

If KCR goes there, he may have to face the embarrassment of meeting Naidu, in the wake of recent revival of cash-for-vote case.

At the same time, he cannot avoid attending the ceremony because JDS president H D Deve Gowda himself called him and invited him for the function.

Moreover, several regional party leaders like Mamata Banerjee, Mayawati, Arvind Kejriwal, M K Stalin and others are attending the ceremony.

If KCR, who is spearheading the federal front movement, abstains from swearing-in ceremony, he might have to face the criticism that he is scared of the BJP and that his federal front talk is just an attempt to weaken the Congress!

Sources say KCR may skip the swearing-in ceremony but to avoid criticism, he might depute his daughter K Kavitha and a couple of other senior leaders like K Kesava Rao to attend the same!
