KCR To Do Away With Controversial LRS?

KCR To Do Away With Controversial LRS?

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi government led by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to do away with the controversial Layout Regulation Scheme (LRD) introduced by a few month ago, following resistance from common people and also real estate developers.

The LRS turned out to be a huge negative factor for the KCR government, as it imposed heavy fees to regularise the unauthorised layouts. In some areas, the LRS fee is more than double the cost of the land itself.

Many people who had purchase plots in these unauthorised layouts were forced to shell down heavy money to regularise their plots, since without regularisation, they cannot get the building permission.

The decision turned out to be a nemesis for the TRS in the by-elections to Dubbak assembly seat and the recent GHMC elections.

As a result, KCR is apprehensive that the decision might prove counter productive to the party in the ensuing Khammam and Warangal municipal corporation elections and also Nagarjunasagar by-elections.

Now, KCR is discussing with officials as to how to go about with the LRS. He is asking them whether it would be correct to drop the scheme entirely or make changes so that the LRS fees is reduced drastically. A decision is expected to be taken in a day or two, sources said.
